Travel Advisory/Warnings

  • Medusa Lake is really close to Riftus; only about 100 or so blocks separate the two.
  • While waterfalls are plenty, no source blocks are accessible, so bottles can't be refilled from them.
  • To get to the jail, stand on a pressure plate near the western house with a bed. Stand on it and a passage will open up in the house. Go in quick.
    • There are 2 cauldrons with a total of 6 uses and a crafting table in the jail.
    • To get out, put an item on the wooden pressure plate under the ladders or go to the northernmost cell and jump down into a hole that'll lead to the lava crater, where there is a mil_rare chest.
  • The town is situated around a huge crater filled with lava, so be sure to stay at a reasonable distance away from it.
  • To access the vault, use a button to open the iron door in the inn on the left of the entrance.
  • If stuck in the lava crater, there is a one-way exit on the bank to the east.
  • This is the only location with civ_uncommon chests in a fairly large section of the Cave System. If in need of a bandage or milk at Septus or Medusa Lake, this is the place to come.
  • Camping here is not advised due to the lack of high-tier loot and water source.

Trivia

  • This town was a submission built by LoafFace posted on the MineZ Reddit. Small changes to it have been made from its addition to the map, like changing the glowstone on the lamp posts to redstone lamps and removing most of the dirt and gravel patches in the location itself.
    • This location received a face-lift on the Re-Code Update, adding more detail to certain parts of the town, and leaves now cover most of the cave's ceiling.
  • The town's name comes from the combination of the word Rift (referring to the large lava lake in the middle of the town) and the Latin suffix -us. Other towns in the Cave System have this suffix, such as Septus, Sirus and Auraeus.
