Floating Islands as seen from the northeast

The Floating Islands (Often abbreviated as FI) are located extremely far North to the East of Mining Town. They hover over a large void in the terrain, surrounded by spiky, impassable rocky mountains. Reaching the top means completing a lot of parkour, which is fatal if failed due to the void. There is an abundance of zombie and zombie pigman spawners, as well as a Giant placed directly in the player's path. The largest structure on the islands is the ruined top of the Earth Spire which contains 4 special spire chests.

Travel Advisory/Warnings

  • Zerbia is southeast of here if you need a bandage.
  • The Path leading to the entrance to the islands is at X:2250, Z:-3700. When coming here, go to these coordinates and not the ones listed on the map.
  • Path A (Northeast side of FI) has more pigmen, while Path B (Southwest side of FI) has more parkour. A large group may choose to complete both paths simultaneously to avoid clutter.
  • Water refills are available in several places, including the spire island at the top.
  • With 3 pot_epics, FI is technically among the best places in the game to acquire glowstone and lingering II potions.
  • Getting here and looting the islands will require lots of food, as you are often required to sprint-jump.
  • A desperate player in need of food can frequently find carrots in the spire chests.
  • Be careful when ascending the waterfall to the spire island, as you are vulnerable to falling zombies and players with bows.
  • Snowballs can save lives here. You don’t want a pigman to attack you while you’re opening a chest.
  • Zombie spawners are (almost) always marked by skeleton skulls. The exceptions are a couple of spawners that are built into the spires and mini-spires.
  • Zombie pigman spawners are always marked by wither skeleton skulls. Immediately run past if you see them.
  • The Giant will spawn on the large north-west island, where paths A and B split.
  • If you have a group of more than five people, it is recommended to trap the Giant in a cobweb such that everyone has a chance to run past it.
  • Due to the Giant’s high-knockback attacks, it is extremely dangerous to fight it here. Only do so if you’re seeking a challenge.
    • If you would like to fight the Giant, the strategy used in [video] may be of use. Be sure you're not jumping when his stomp hits you or you're probably dead.
  • Grappling can be used to skip parts of the intended path.
  • If you need to log out for a while, make absolutely sure you log out on a full solid block. If you leave while standing on a slab or stair, you could die when you log back in.
  • Having a good keyboard is recommended, as if you wobble jump or fail to sprint jump, death is almost certain.
  • Don’t allow yourself to succumb to nerves. The parkour at FI is among the easiest in the game.

Trivia

  • For Christmas 2015, the majority of the terrain had been replaced with ice, snow and quartz.
  • In the past, only 13 islands were accessible.
  • This location was among many that were rebuilt in the MineZ: Origins update.
  • The origins location also received a Christmas reskin in 2020, where the islands resembled iced chocolate cupcakes and the trees resembled candy canes.
  • Some players compete for the fastest time to climb the islands to the earth spire on the speedrun.com leaderboards for MineZ.

Lore

  • There is a Lore Block on the top island on the way to the large tree.

Lore Block

Held in permanent stasis at the top of this spire rests the Goddess of Earth, Therum.
Therum is said to have molded us from the Earth, drawing and shaping us from the clay. The very land we worked, lived and died on was gifted to us by Therum. Our absolute trust was given to her and for a time our devotion was rewarded by an age of prosperity

unlike any before.
The floating islands around you were once a sacred grove - a location of immense beauty and respect. When Therum was sealed inside the spire's orb the very earth around this grove was wrenched into the sky.
Isolated from her element, the spire of Therum, what is left, slowly wavers through the air, never again being allowed to touch the ground.
