Overview of Dark Mansion, with Necromancer Tower to the east

Dark Mansion is a dungeon entirely located under the volcano; the mansion above only acts as an access point. Players have to jump into a lava pool inside the mansion, and then fall through the lava in the volcano. A powerful legendary can be found here, and some decent dungeon loot. However, the mansion itself is empty.

To ensure their safety, players should always bring fire resistance potions when coming here.

Text Walkthrough

Lava Dropper (Difficulty: 3/10)

  • Parkour across the broken bridge to the mansion.
  • Jump down the center hole into the lava below, which will lead into the volcano, passing through another layer of lava.
    • Jumping into the lava is advised to take less damage, as opposed to simply walking into it.
    • Don't move around while falling through as there's a chance to miss the dropdown into the next area, and promptly burn to death.

Door Choice Room (Difficulty: 4/10)

  • After falling through the lava, a pool of water awaits at the bottom, in the first puzzle room. Use it to refill water, if needed.
  • This room has 4 exits with pressure plates with signs above them. The signs read "T P I T O !", "E E H O E T", "H U T T E T", "T R A S H U" (East, North, West, and South exits respectively). The correct exit is South (the T R A S H U sign).
    • Don't bother with any of the other exits, as they shoot Splash Potions of Harming/Weakness.
  • After stepping on the pressure plate, the 3x3 door will open for a brief second and a Zombie Pigman will appear directly in front of the door. Sprint through and kill the zombies.
    • There is a chance that a baby pigman will spawn.
    • It is recommended to use a snowball to stop the pigman from attacking and allow access to the next area.
    • Don't step on the pressure plate again or let the zombies step on it, as this will cause another zombie pigman to spawn.

Short Hallway (Difficulty: 2/10)

  • After passing through the exit of the first room, proceed down the hallway.
  • The pressure plate in front of you is a trap that lets lava flow down onto you. Above and behind the pressure plate is a button which opens the door to the maze.
  • If you snowballed a baby pigman in the previous room, they may follow you as you complete this part.

The Maze (Difficulty: 2/10)

  • Following is a large, two-part maze. The floor is littered with pressure plates that will light up redstone lamps on the floor.
  • A map for the first and second maze can be viewed in the gallery. The player starts from the bottom of the image.

Split-Path Lava Parkour (Difficulty: 7/10)

  • At the exit of the second floor of the maze, there is a chamber with a lava floor and a few lava falls. This is a parkour challenge that goes off in three directions.
  • One player (Player 1) must complete the nether brick fence parkour on the left side and get ready to press a button. This is the hardest of the three parkour paths.
  • Another player (Player 2) will need to climb down the ladder, beat the parkour on the floor, and stand on the pressure plate at the end.
    • Although this is the easiest of the three parkour paths, it is easy to get ping-spiked (damaged by the lava while jumping over it). Avoid timing jumps too close to the edge of a block while near lava.
  • With Player 2 on the plate, when Player 1 presses his button, the door on the right side will open. A third player must parkour to the right side and go through the door.
    • There's a pressure plate just past the door that holds the door open. Stand on this so the other players can backtrack their parkour and proceed to the loot room.
      • More easily, the other players can log out, and regroup after the dungeon is beaten to distribute the gear from the loot room.

Loot Room (Difficulty: 1/10)

  • Loot the ten dungeon_tier_3 chests and get the Legendary Item.
    • At this point, it is recommended to /logout. This will send the player to the dungeon entrance, past the bridge parkour, from which they can easily reverse the bridge parkour to leave Dark Mansion.
  • This room contains six iron pressure plates. Drop one item on each iron pressure plate to open up a passage below the sign that acts as the dungeon exit.

Exit Hallway (Difficulty: 2/10)

  • After opening the way, walk through a very dark hallway. Right in front of you lies 3 stone pressure plates; They all open lava traps in the following order: In front of plate, In front of AND behind the plate, and behind the plate.
  • To avoid falling into the lava, shift onto the edge of the blocks that the plates are on, and proceed slowly. Do this one player at a time.
  • Continue down the tunnel, there will be a button. Press it to be teleported to the true exit room.
  • In this exit room, step on the pressure plate which opens a piston door, then move through the tunnel. The last tunnel has no pitfalls.
  • Congratulations on beating Dark Mansion!

Travel Advisory/Warnings

  • Always bring multiple fire resistance potions and a heal kit with Aloe Vera to this dungeon. Inexperienced parkour players will end up getting burnt by the lava in this dungeon.
    • Aloe Vera can be farmed on the way north at locations such as Sirus, Altin, or Paluster.
    • Fire resistance potions drop from Scorchers. Many of them may spawn just south of Dark Mansion.
  • Like many far northern locations, there's a steep cliff to climb to get there, so make sure to bring a fair amount of food.
  • Be careful when crossing the bridge to the dungeon; Falling can be fatal. If falling, try and land on one of the islands/crumbled bridge supports. With a grapple, it's possible to get back up. Without it, try to swim through the lava lake to the shore, most likely wasting a fire resistance potion to get back.
  • The entrance requires falling through two layers of lava (one at the mansion and the next in the lake), so bring enough bandages to stop a possible bleeding.

Trivia

  • This is one of the only dungeons in the game that has been around since before the Secret Update (August 2015), but has never had its build or mechanics altered significantly. Other such dungeons include Byesford Labs and Sunken Library.
  • This dungeon has the least number of rooms of any Tier 3. Krubera Vault can be completed more quickly, but has more distinct challenges.
  • It was once possible to duo or even solo complete this dungeon by using a Zombie Bow from Devil's Respite to activate the plates in the parkour room.
    • Soloing this dungeon has turned impossible due to the addition of a button was added to the left side around the time of the Re-Code Update.
    • It is still theoretically possible to duo this dungeon; However, getting the zombie on the bottom to walk onto the plate is extremely difficult.
  • A sign in the loot room reads "We demand sacrifice!"
  • The Ghost Ship was once North of Dark Mansion, behind the rocky hills.
  • Giants used to spawn to the West of Dark Mansion in the lava, it was possible to lure them to the side and collect the loot after they died. A tutorial can be found here.
