Inside the Bloodstained Abyss

Bloodstained Abyss is a dungeon located in Fort Saward. The dungeon instance is accessed through a hole in a boarded wall on the first floor of the fort. It was released on March 18th, 2022 as part of Update 4.8, and serves as a rework to the dungeon Saward Crypt

Text Walkthrough

The main feature of the dungeon is that the loot the player receives is based on how fast they complete it. The timer starts as soon as the player sees the "Be quick." text on their screen. The high-tier loot room closes after 4 minutes, the mid-tier loot room closes after 7.5 minutes, and the low-tier loot room does not close

Entrance (Difficulty: 3 / 10)

  • Jump across the gap to proceed forwards
    • Falling into the fog will inflict Wither V for 4 seconds. However, it will also give Resistance V for 1.5 seconds to negate any fall damage the player would have taken. This results in the player only taking 2.5 hearts of damage if they fall

Moving Blocks (7 / 10)

  • Stepping on the red stained clay blocks in the lava makes them move, allowing players to ride them across the lava pit. There are two routes to choose from
  • The first router is easier but slower. It involves staying on the first clay block until the end. When the block reaches smoke particles, it will descend into the lava. Jump onto a nearby cobblestone platform, then jump back onto the block as it resurfaces from the other nearby smoke particles. It will then continue to the end
  • The second route is harder but faster. It involves jumping onto each clay block as the block that the player is on approaches them

Lava Cavern (7 / 10)

  • The goal of this cavern is to ignite oneself with a torch, then light three more torches to open the doorway to the next room
  • There are multiple routes to reach the lit torch. Each route has varying difficulties and lengths. The player should take whichever route they find the most consistent. Brown carpet indicates the path to the torch
  • After igniting oneself, the first torch that must be lit is across a small gap and down. The second torch is to the left and upwards. The final torch is at the end of the path, near the closed door. They can be lit in any order
  • After passing through the door, the player will be extinguished
    • Through the door to the right is a grenade wall. Blowing it open with a grenade reveals two Bloodstained Abyss Mid and one Bloodstained Abyss High loot chests

Crate Puzzle (1 / 10)

  • The puzzle is fairly straightforward. Push the small crate so that it can be used to access the medium crate. Push the medium crate to reach a ledge that has a table with a "Rusty Hatchet" (stone axe) on it. Use the Rusty Hatchet to remove the debris blocking the large crate, then push it to be able to make the jump out of the room
  • Follow the path upwards into the library

Library (6 / 10)

  • Enter the library and go up the stairs to the left. Follow the path, either doing a difficult parkour jump or taking the slower route through cobwebs
  • There are Zombie Pigmen spawners in the library floor
  • When the bookshelf blocking the way is reached, shoot it with an arrow to clear the path. Continue following the parkour path until a hole in the wall is reached. Climb through the hole and continue to the final parkour section

Final Parkour (7 / 10)

  • The final parkour area consists of two routes, similarly to the library. The left route is faster but more difficult, while the right route is easier but requires the player to go through cobwebs which slows them down
  • If the player fails, they must run to the far end of the room and go left to get back. There will be some simple jumps they have to complete. Both rooms have Zombie spawners in the floor
  • After the player finishes the parkour, one of the three loot rooms will be open depending on how fast they beat the dungeon. The high-tier room is in the middle, the mid-tier room is on the right, and the low-tier room is on the left

Exit (3 / 10)

  • To exit the dungeon, follow the tunnel downwards and step on the pistons. They will send the player flying upwards. Land on each cobblestone ledge to safely ascend and eventually exit the dungeon instance through a door
    • The player should be careful to not land on a piston if they happen to fall back down. They will immediately be launched up again, which can result in large amounts of fall damage if unprepared

Travel Advisory / Warnings

  • Many bandits use the dungeon to gear up and fight at surrounding areas. Be wary about nearby players, even if they claim to be friendly
  • The only gear required to complete the dungeon is a bow and one arrow. This makes it a fantastic place to quickly gear up if the player is able to complete the parkour sections consistently
  • If the player is going for the high-tier loot room and fails early on in the dungeon, it is advised to /logout and re-enter the dungeon to restart the timer

Trivia

  • The dungeon was built by ro_cks, Smartz_ and BasicAly. Their player heads can be found hidden throughout it
  • Bloodstained Abyss was made to replace the dungeon Saward Crypt. Many rooms in the dungeon are similar to those previously found in Saward Crypt
