The town as seen from the southeast

Somnia is a swamp island town surrounded by the sea with an industrialist style to it. The island is covered by a small roofed forest, soul sand, leaves, and some ponds. There are also some big brown mushrooms of similar style to those found at Exolesco.

It is visited for its possibility of iron armor, as well as its abundance of food. It is west of Carnival and northeast of Kaocho and it is one of four major locations in the swamp. Somnia often has an extremely small population and a variety of loot.

There is a church with health potions, a house with crafting tables, a diner that contains brewing stands on the second floor, and a clock tower in the north of the town with iron equipment.

Travel Advisory/Warnings

  • The crafting tables are located in the partially ruined house.
  • There's a lot of soul sand on the island. Be mindful of this as to not get slowed down when running away from zombies/players.
  • Start climbing the clock tower from the bottom. Go to the entrance door and start parkouring up the vines and leaves placed there. This will take the player to the first floor.
    • There used to be easier ways to get into the clock tower, but they've been removed with the Re-Code Update. One of them included getting on a part that broke off from the clock tower, jumping there and onto the trees. These trees have now been cut off.
  • Careful when climbing the clock tower as it requires multiple jumps of varying difficulty. There are some vines that make certain jumps easier or save the player from falling all the way. These are few and far between, however.
  • There is no water in the clock tower.
  • It may be easier to just loot the 1 mil_rare and mil_uncommon chests halfway up the clock tower, as getting all the way to the top can be somewhat dangerous and time-consuming, although one more mil_rare chest can be looted if the player makes it near the top and 3 more if they make it onto the roof.
  • To get to the melons in the small stash, come from the north of the house they're located close to and look for a small gap in the leaves. One can also jump down from above the trees by climbing on top of the tree stump nearby. To get out of this area just look for another gap.

Trivia

  • The name Somnia is Latin for "Dream". This probably relates to the fact that there is a giant clock tower in the town, and also one of the few locations to have one; this one being the biggest.
  • There's a sign inside The Greasy Gear that reads: "Free drinks to those who turn the Iron Knob." It is uncertain what the Iron Knob is.
  • The mechanism of the clock tower seems to go underground as well. A small doorway can be seen underneath the gears of the ground floor.
  • There is what seems to be a valve with an iron pipe on the top floor. The iron pipe is presumably connected to a wooden faucet below, on the ground floor. This is a reference to Auraeus, another steam/industrialist-themed town that was added for Christmas and kept with a few tweaks but it was later removed due to it being very different in style from other locations and its strange difficulty and mechanics overall.
    • The rebuild was also made by the same builder, PineFrost64.
    • For the Re-Code Update, the steam valve is now in an "activated" state and there's blood surrounding it.
  • Somnia received a rebuild on July 25th, 2018. The most important change was probably the clock tower and loot. The clock tower was made bigger, the parkour was slightly harder due to the lack of vines and water pipes, and the food chests were buffed along with the military loot. The water pipes were removed as the clock tower and the whole town took a more steam-powered turn.
    • The old build was a submission by Evil-Etho.
  • The old build's clock Tower was actually an altered version of a Steampunk Clock Tower. Most of the gold/iron sections were changed to wood/cobblestone, a water-powered-like system was added while also adding a few more sections and ruining it a bit plus the addition of several vines.
